Entre les coups de gueule contre la modération forcément fasciste, ceux qui râlent parce que la hot-line met deux jours à répondre, ceux qui n’aiment pas le nouveau truc de la mort qui tue qu’on vient de développer avec amour (mais « c’était mieux avant »), ceux qui trouvent qu’il n’y a pas assez  de tests de ceci ou trop de cela, qui trouvent les tests pas assez critiques ou au contraire trop durs, la vie d’un admin d’AF n’est pas toujours de tout repos. Et je ne parle pas de gens non membres qui nous menacent de procès parce que quelqu’un dit qu’il a été mal servi chez eux et que son synthé commandé il y a 3 mois n’est toujours pas livré.

Heureusement, on a aussi pas mal de messages de remerciements. Au détour d’une réponse à la hot-line, dans un sujet annonçant une nouvelle fonction, après l’annonce de la correction d’un bug, il arrive qu’on ait un « merci pour ce que vous faites ». Ça compense.

Mais de temps en temps, un membre se lâche carrément et ça fait plaisir automatiquement.

Plaisir auto : AF tel qu’il est.
Poster une image drôle (ou pas), de la citation dans/hors AF, une phrase à la con, une question sérieuse, un sondage idiot. Apprendre des trucs liés ou non à la musique, poser des questions auxquelles on n’a pas la réponse mais un AFien peut l’avoir. Entendre ou lire un truc ailleurs et avoir le réflexe de le poster parce qu’il a fait penser à AF automatiquement. Googler un truc, puis de fil en aiguille tomber sur une fiche produit sur AF, lire tranquillement un test, se dire que merde c’est cher comme même, et du coup rêver un peu ; chercher encore, découvrir un matos similaire qu’on ne soupçonnait même pas, partir en quête d’infos, avoir accès aux avis, aux tutos, aux forums. Du coup, revendre l’ancien matos qu’on n’utilisait plus trop. Du coup, gérer ses annonces, échanger tranquillement avec des acheteurs. Du coup, poster un avis sur le nouveau truc acheté, pouvoir renseigner de parfaits inconnus sur le forum du produit en question.
Je n’ai pas beaucoup de sites favoris, mais le fait d’aller consulter mes sujets flagués est littéralement devenu un réflexe automatique dès que Firefox est lancé.

  2. So — been on this thing for something like five months now and I keep coming back, so figured I’d say something since someone asked me a few days back. I’m based in the UK, mainly stick to footie and the horses, small stakes, so take it how you like.

    How I found it was genuinely a bit daft — I never could work out what an each way return would be when the place terms changed. I’d just eyeball it and then be surprised. Now stick my stake in before I place anything, even the boring singles.

    Their single bet calculator tool is the one I use most — you drop in your stake, the odds and it spits out the return straight away, fractional or decimal, doesn’t matter. There’s also the fiddly ones — doubles and trebles maths, a lucky 15, patents and yankees, honestly that’s where most people I know mess it up. If you want a look, it’s over at kelly betting calculator and it’s free with no account nonsense.

    The thing that actually made a difference were the more serious bits. There’s an odds-to-probability thing which shows you the overround, and a kelly staking tool — I run quarter kelly because full kelly is far too aggressive. The dutch tool gets used a fair bit for when I’m splitting a race.

    Not all sunshine though. The design looks a bit basic — not much flash, looks like it was built by someone who cares more about maths than colours. On my phone it works although the bigger tables need a bit of scrolling. And no app, it’s browser only — slight shame just flagging it.

    Right, that’s me. Doesn’t cost anything, not plastered in adverts, does what it says. If anyone honestly does the maths on paper, have a look — saves me plenty of dumb bets I’d have regretted.

  6. Right — been using this thing for maybe four months now and it’s stuck on my phone, so thought I’d chuck my thoughts in since someone asked me the other day. I’m UK based, mostly do football and horses, small stakes, so take it how you like.

    The reason I started using it was honestly embarrassing — I couldn’t ever work out what an ew return actually was with 1/5 odds a place. Basically I’d wing it and get a shock. Now stick my stake in before I place anything, even the boring singles.

    The single bet calculator is the bit I’m on daily — you put in your stake, the odds and you get returns with no faffing, fractions or decimals. There’s also the fiddly ones — trebles maths, lucky 15 and lucky 63, a yankee, and that’s where I’d always got it wrong. If you want a look, it lives at odds accumulator — free, no signup.

    The thing that genuinely shifted things for me was the more serious tools. The odds-to-probability calculator and it makes obvious how much the bookie’s taking, and there’s the kelly criterion tool — I run quarter kelly because full kelly is a quick route to a dead bankroll. The dutching one gets used a fair bit when I’m spreading across selections.

    It’s not perfect mind. Its interface feels very functional, let’s say — zero polish, it’s clearly function over form. On mobile it’s usable though the lucky 63 breakdown need a bit of scrolling. There’s nothing on the app store, just the site — slight shame just flagging it.

    So yeah. Doesn’t cost anything, not plastered in adverts, does the job. If you even now does the maths on paper, have a look — saves me a load of arguments with the bookie.
